22nd Jan 2019 I did a presentation at the http://German Church Pattaya
I opened the talk with a comparison to Insurance for house, condo, car, health, life as we all pay for these to lower the costs later on.

However when you land in hospital then there is no control over costs for keeping you alive when there is no hope of recovery. A Living Will can stop the hospital keeping you alive on a machine at a daily cost. You could be kept alive on a machine for a very long time while the family has an moral and ethical issue with unplugging you from the life support.
The subject on how do I make a Living Will is a legal one as it comes under the Health Code Section 12 where by it is permitted to withhold intervention by medical staff if you are in a state where you cannot recover or in a terminal state and cannot recover. It is not Euthanasia. As far as I know there are only a few countries that allow this and Australia is one of them.
No one wants to talk about Living Wills as it is a most unpleasant subject and should you be named as the person that tells the hospital to withhold treatment then you have a big task and responsibility ahead of you.
It is not easy particularly as there is a legal signed Living Will, the Doctors Hippocratic Oath and your religious convictions. All with a different opinion.
One issue that has come up recently is that when someone has a Living Will and ends up in hospital ICU? In this case as soon as possible the hospital must be made aware of the wishes of the person that made the Living Will and that it is legal and in place.
I suggested to the audience yesterday that in your passport you have a card of Thai888 Law or write in the back that you have a Living Will and do not resuscitate DNR. As the first thing authorities look for is the passport and then it will be in plain sight for them.
There is a format for the Living Will and should you want to make one then contact me on mailto:[email protected]
Thai Living Will in Thai and English – there are several pages.

Bangkok Pattaya Hospital has confirmed to me that you can have the Thai888 Law Living Will on file with them.
Please if you lodge it with them also supply a signed copy of your passport.
Thai Law under Health states a Living Will under Statute 12 is legal and enforceable and therefore all hospitals should follow the same procedure.
If you make a Living Will then please tell your friends and family as then the hospital can be notified should the Will become active.
